If I could give no stars, I would. It's unfortunate to have to write this review, as we have enjoyed this establishment's food many times since opening. We were recently shown, however, that our loyal patronage means nothing to them when we, for the first time, had a complaint. My 4 year old daughters personal pizza rose to the point of explosion, and had essentially nothing on top but a large burnt bubble. How this even made it into a box for delivery I don't know, but we simply called and asked if they could replace the pizza. With 2 small children, we were unable to head back up for a new one that evening, but were told they would replace it the next time we ordered. Today, when calling to order (about $40 worth of food in addition to the $7-ish individual cheese pizza they were supposedly replacing,) the gal on the phone, as well as the OWNER of Green Zone, were incredibly inconsiderate, asking if we had a receipt from the purchase when someone supposedly told us this, acting as though we were trying to get over on them, talking over me, and telling us that "it is a free country and we are welcome to take our business elsewhere." I was mortified and uncomfortable through the entire conversation. Reading through the reviews below it seems a somewhat frequent occurrence. We will not be ordering from this establishment again, and will be encouraging family and friends to dine elsewhere, also.

Recently ordered pizza from Green Zone and they have certainly improved. I'm glad to see that they took some of the comments I and others made to heart. Frankly speaking, I usually make my own pizza. I worked in a family run pizzeria for several years in my younger days so have an idea how to make a good pie and can use the best ingredients possible. This time around, however, we just got back from a long road trip and needed to "order out". We went for a perfect pepperoni pizza with the addition of ham on organic white crust. 1.) Crust is worlds better. Thin, light and flaky. Very nice job 2.) Tomato sauce was much tastier. Not sure if it was the sauce itself or the combination of it with the pepperoni, but the combo definitely works. A little light on the sauce, but not a killer thanks to the flavor. 3.) Good amount of cheese as before. We also tried the chicken shawarma pizza several months ago. The first experience - we were in love. The second experience - not as good, simply not enough sauce. It is a tasty pizza when executed properly and we'll try it again but ask for extra sauce next time. Overall, I'm happy to see the improvements and happy to increase my rating from 3 to 4 stars. Keep up the nice work Green Zone. My only suggestion is to add a bit more sauce to your pies. We'll be back.

The message states that their "new" hours are 1-9 on Sunday. Well I arrive at 8:15 and they are closed. If I can't depend on an establishment to remain open during their stated open hours, then I will not be considering them anytime. They've lost a customer.

Overpriced and the pizza was horrible. I'll never go back. Go anywhere else if you want pizza.

Subpar pizza.... Bad service. My homemade pizza is much better, and frankly, faster than carry out from this place. They had not even started my pizza when I got there 45 minutes after ordering and did not seem apologetic about making me wait. It was 8 pm on a Friday and the restaurant was practically empty. I was not impressed. Crust didn't have that good freshly made taste. I wanted to like this pace but unfortunately will not be returning.

I want to like this place for it's atmosphere/cool little shop vibe it has going on, but I just can't. Service is absolutely horrible, and the food is just mediocre. I had the BBQ chicken pizza, which wasn't bad, but the chicken had little flavor, wasn't browned, and it lacked BBQ sauce. The shrimp pizza was about the same quality. Definitely nothing worth bragging about. Their crust/dough sucks. It tastes like a Chef Boyarde box pizza kit. I wasn't impressed, to say the least. My Mom ordered a glass of wine, which never really came. She got it as we were about to leave, didn't really want it at that point, but was still charged for it, so we sat there for a minute as she hastily drank it before we left. The "servers" act like any and all complaints are unjustified, and there are many. I won't be back.

Their pizza is over priced and bland. Essentially it's a Cottage Inn rip off, which also is overpriced and bland. It's not god awful but there to many places near and around it that are far better; I.e, Mama Rosas, Farms Market, hell Jets! Please don't give these people your money.

I have been here several times and I usually like the meals I've had here, but had a negative experience recently when I went with a friend. The place was almost empty at the time and the waiter was in the process of taking a $160 phone order for carry-out. When he finished we asked if he could would be able to serve us before working on this big phone order. He declined to do this and we decided to go elsewhere rather than wait for who knew how long. It seems to me that customers in the restaurant should take priority, unless this is just their unsubtle way of becoming only a carryout restaurant.

This place was just OK and very over priced! I would not go back. I paid over $18.00 for one of the appetizers-Honey Smoked Salmon Dip and the Shrimp Po Boy. The Smoked Salmon Dip was like a pate' and was not homemade, tasted like it came from a jar. The Shrimp Po Boy was so not good! The owner came over an apologized that they didn't even have the right bread and said he has to change the picture. There was hardly any shrimp in it and very bland tasting. Living in the south for over eighteen years and enjoying real shrimp po boys from New Orleans, this one was not even close. The restaurant was clean but the staff was not friendly at all and acted like they didn't know what they were doing.

I'm baffled by the low reviews. This place serves healthy, tasty, and fresh pizza. If you're complaining about the prices then stick with the "hot and readies".

Had lunch at GZ again today. Service was very friendly and helpful. Our order was delivered promptly. The tangy citrus vinaigrette is the best part of the arugula/beet salad. The chicken was old and dry - on mine and my friend's cobb salad. I think it's a decent restaurant, but I don't see myself having GZ cravings.

When my wife and I first tried Green Zone Pizza it was not long after they opened. Like other reviewers we found it to be pretty smoky when they were busy baking pizzas. Our first impressions were the service format is clunky (partial self serve), the pizza was okay, the beer was good, and the overall value was a bit over priced. Knowing that they had just opened we thought we would give them a chance to work out the bugs. Since our first visit we have been back several times with our children. I'm still not particularly fond of their partial self serve format however this is turning into one of my favorite pizza places. They fixed the smoke issue. We have tried several of their different pizzas and have enjoyed them all. These pizzas are different enough from the usual to stand out. They are a little more pricy than other pizzas but I think there is value. The beer and wine selection is a bonus. The craft beers are what I enjoy. Overall, I enjoy Green Zone and enjoy dining there.

Really cool to see an environmentally conscious business with great food. Pizza, appetizers, salads, other menu options as some great wine and local Michigan breweries on tap. I was surprised with this place and I will definitely be back again. The dining area has a very modern feel along with a bar with the taps behind it. Perfect for a quick lunch with friends while eating a pizza and a local beer.

I opted for Green Zone hesitantly after reading other reviews. But my first, second, and third choices for the evening's carryout order weren't answering their phones. I needed carryout since I'm in town caring for my aging parents. I ordered a personal pizza, the I Can't believe It's Not Sausage one (or something like that) and cheese bread (in case the personal pizza wasn't enough food). They said it would be ready in 15 minutes. I arrived right on time, paid, and scoped out the art and the atmosphere, the tap beers (4 nice craft brews), and their funky tapped wine bottle service. I impulse purchased an order of gazpacho when I arrived, so they were just assembling that and I'd be on my way. In the meantime, I picked up a bottle of Faygo Rock & Rye (in a bottle made with cane sugar) that got me singing the "Remember when you were a kid..." song in my head. Service was courteous, prompt, and available on a busy holiday weekend. At home, I tried the gazpacho first, sharing a few bites with my mom who was finishing up last Friday's meals on wheels. She approved. And I thought it was the best gazpacho I've had since the last batch I made. I can never find anyone who makes gazpacho as good as mine. It is always too thinly pureed. This however, had a processed base with chunks of tomato, onion, and cucumber in it. It was topped with deliciously homemade croutons and a dollop of Greek style yogurt (similar to crème fraîche or sour cream). I'm going to steal the yogurt idea for my own. It was absolutely delicious. Next, I busted into the pizza. Turkey sausage (I never get poultry on pizza and I usually avoid pork substitutes for cured meats and sausages), crimini mushrooms, banana peppers, and something that escapes me at the moment. The crust was (to my surprise) nice, thin, and more like a flatbread then the doughy crust other commenters warned about. I gave a small piece to my mom and dad who were finishing their meals. Mom said it was delicious and accepted another piece. Dad said it was okay, which is a huge compliment from a man whose taste buds have been destroyed from 7 decades of smoking. I'd say that was a success. We finished off the personal pizza, satisfied. I thought the flavor blend was great, and was pleased by the turkey sausage, despite my reservations. I ate a few pieces of the cheese bread, which was pretty much a cheese pizza with the sauce on the side. At the time I thought that maybe a personal cheese pizza would have hit the spot better. And I also thought, about the cheese bread and the pizza, that they wouldn't be good leftovers, that they wouldn't hold up to reheating. I reluctantly saved the cheese bread and just now ate it, the next day, as an evening snack. I ate it cold with some shiraz. I think reheating it would have been a mistake. Cold, it tasted like melted cheese on flatbread. I didn't use the sauce and was happy it wasn't a cheese pizza at this point. As a 20 year Wisconsin resident who works in the food association industry, I've developed a bit of cheese snobbery. And this, I tell you, hit the spot.

My two boys and I were looking forward to trying their food. Yeah...it was quite the let down. Over priced, bland cardboard it a very accurate description. Never again.

Been back a couple times now and so far my favorite dishes are their: Wings : : These organic chicken wings are amazing! The meat was nice & juicy, skin was perfectly crisp, and the buffalo sauce gave these wings some major flavor. If you can't handle spicy foods then go with the Cherry BBQ sauce instead, also good! California Pizza : : the roasted garlic and sundried tomatoes infuse the pizza with bold well balanced flavors. Greek Pizza : : just enough saltiness from the kalamata olives and a great sweet/sour contrast with the banana peppers - i tried this one with the whole wheat crust and it was great (not dry or bland). Arugula & Roasted Beet Salad : : crunchy, smokey, peppery, citrusy, and overall tasty! On a side note: Green Zone Pizza now has a wine bar and happy hour specials like half off bottles of wine on Tuesdays and specials on pitchers of beer during the week! :)

Flavorless caesar salad. Bland personal pizza which was small but expensive. Disappointing - I definitely do not recommend wasting the money or calories on this food.

I had some guests coming for dinner, and my daughter was jumping up and down as soon as the word 'pizza' came out of my mouth. I told her we were going to try the new place, Green Zone. She had been begging me since they started building it. Before the store even OPENED. I ordered a half cheese, half sausage pizza. It was expensive. I brought it back, and the kids tried it. My daughter had two cheese and one sausage piece. When she looked down at her piece, she asked me, "Mom, is that a sausage piece? I thought it was another cheese piece." There's also a few little things that could make their business work a little better. 1. I know you're trying to be green. Woo hoo! Go green. Yay. But pizza is a KID thing. For most adults, if they want fancy food, they go to a fancy restaurant. There's too many fancy ingredients. Kids don't care if they have super fancy ingredients. They just want pizza. 2. You're in the middle of the two biggest super markets in town! Whenever I walk by in the middle of the day with my kid running errands, I wish I could just stop in and get TWO pieces of pizza. If we just get the smallest pizza they have, it's still going back to $10-15 a pop. I mentioned this to one of the cashiers, and all I got was an excuse and a bad attitude. 3. Get better sauce! It's like you're sticking bland tomato juice under there with no seasoning. Pretty stingy about it, too. I mean seriously, if you can't even bother with good SAUCE..... Sigh. Overall, I am extremely disappointed with my experience at Green Zone and would strongly recommend going somewhere else for your pizza lunch/dinner. I recommend Jet's, Little Caesar's, or Ferlito's if you have kids with you.

If you go here and don't LOVE it, then YOU are the problem. (is that mean? i hope not, let'still be friends) this was easily one of the best pizza's experiences i have EVER had. Like ever ever. (i also had the wings that were out. of. this. world. delicous). The atmosphere is adorbs. the beer is cold. the pizza's are so unique, fresh and just so delicious. I have been here a handful of times, so i'm posting this as a green zone veteran. I have a date to go here again on saturday. Phenom. plain and simple. PHENOM.

The menu is pretty limited. That usually doesn't matter if the food delivers, which this place, unfortunately, does not. We ordered the BLT sliders and those were good (the spicy bacon added just a little heat and the toasted buns were really good). Unfortunately the pizza was not good. It tasted more like a homemade pizza with fancy toppings. The crust tasted more like a cracker than pizza crust. And I was surprised how long it took our pizza to come out considering we went on a Monday and there were only 3 tables in the entire restaurant. They also offer beer and wine, but I felt the wine was a bit pricey. $7 was the cheapest glass and this is at a order at the counter pizza place. Based on the other reviews, people seem to either love or hate this place. So you might want to go to form your own opinion, but I will not be going back. And least I had a Groupon.

Borderline 4 stars, I'd prefer to give 3.5, but I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt. First and foremost, the California pizza was delicious, on a wheat crust nonetheless. Yes they do white crust, but we went for wheat and loved it. The Caesar was pretty run of the mill, but the flavor was good. Just your plain chopped romaine tossed with dressing, some (better than average) croutons and (most likely) a decent parmesan, not grana padano. They did bring them as courses, granted it takes a little longer to bake a pizza, but one thing that really drives me nuts is getting all the food at the same time. While we didn't drink any, they have pretty good beer and wine options. Monday nights you can get pitchers of their craft beers for $10!... and half off wine bottles on Tuesdays. Here are the kinks, that I'm sure will be smoothed out over time. First of all, I noticed the compost was using a heavy mill black plastic trash bag. I was surprised because I KNOW their biodegradable supply vendor sells bio-bags, they however aren't using them. This led me to wonder, what exactly is done with the compost, because it obviously MUST be dumped out of the black bags, but where? I asked the server and never did get any sort of answer. I still wonder, where are you taking the compost? After our pizza was delivered we were sitting in the restaurant alone and completely unattended for a good 20 minutes. The owner and his two employees were all in back doing god knows what (maybe a meeting?), but we were done and wanted a box and there was no one to even notice. I finally peeked in the kitchen which I can only assume was on camera because the owner came out very shortly thereafter. Last, are all the biodegradeable plates and utensils necessary? There have reusable wine glasses, pizza trays and the various tools they surely have in the kitchen, wouldn't some cheap stainless steel utensils be less expensive and more environmentally friendly in the long run?... Definitely less expensive. Of course for take out they're infinitely better than plastic, but I feel it's wasteful for in-house use. All that said, we'll definitely be back, for the food... and to find out where the compost goes ;)

i took advantage of the yelp coupon with some friends. this was a great deal. the pizza strictly speaking was 4 out of 5 stars not the best i have had but great topping choices. the arugula beet salad was great! the decor and ambiance if you will, was cozy, the place looks like it could seat about 20 people. great sodas and great that they have beer! it's an unusual combo to have 1. good beer, and 2. good pizza with interesting toppings, not just your run of the mill pepperoni

The pizza was really good and reminded me a lot of a place I used to work at in Berkley and the prices were comparable. I had a personal wheat crust with turkey sausage. It could have been a little bigger for the money but It was a decent size. Overall it was a nice change from the usual carry out and a welcome addition to The Village which has seen too many closing lately.

Excellent organic pizza with vegetarian/gluten-free options, a good selection of draft beer and fine wines, friendly service, clean facilities (including clean restroom), and convenient parking right next door. Definitely worth a visit for lunch or dinner!

I just couldn't wait for glutenfree pizza! Paid $25 for two GF 'za's...so skimmpy they didn't make one pizza combined. Great, unique toppings (bque chicken, pesto chicken) but please... still hungry and way too pricey. I was shocked. I truly hope they find the right price/value combo to make it work. Definitely worth ONE more try.

Went to Green Zone the first weekend it opened. The wings were very good! But wish they were a little spicy! First time I had the pizza I wasn't crazy about the dough. But was over at a friends house recently who ordered pizza from them and I loved it. So maybe they changed it up a bit since last time I went in? I would probably go back again. The staff there was very friendly!

We went here for a weekday lunch were pleasantly surprised. The owner waited on us and was very nice. We ordered three pizzas and each one looked great. The pizzas were lightly topped and the crust was thin and charred just a little, which in my book is perfect! Sort of on the light side but that's okay for a restaurant that strives to be green and healthy. This is a nice addition to the Grosse Pointe area.

Pretty good pizza. I had the gluten free greek pizza and enjoyed it. The spinach salad was quite tasty. Been there 2x and will be back to try new things. Staff was friendly.

The restaurant was VERY smokey there was no little to no ventilation. The Pizza itself was very bad in my opinion. I ordered a simple pepperoni pizza, and when I tried it the sauce was like it was straight tomatoes no seasonings or anything else. Very poor quality pizza reminded me of a frozen pizza one would order in a bar. The Cherry BBQ Chicken pizza was bad as well, the sauce was very sweet and there was barely any chicken on it, and the pieces were very small. Needless to say until they improve their pizza quality I will not be returning.

  • E P.

So the pizza is good, the place is clean, staff was nice, but way overpriced. Plus they screwed me on toppings. I ordered a large pizza with pepperoni on all if it, pepper rings on half, and roasted garlic on the other half. Toppings on a large are 2$ for each. Don't you think that a topping on half of a large should be 1$??? Well apparently they don't. They charged 2$ for each topping! Not cool. All in all my pizza cost me 18$. I think from now on i'll sacrifice "green" with more bang for my buck elsewhere...

A group of us wanted to order, but their website wasn't working. They were not able to fax or email their menu. Kinda afraid to order if they can't get organized enough to provide a menu via internet, fax or email. The vacuous girl answering the phone didn't seem to care.

Well it was good. Not great just good. You have to like flat bread or thin crust to enjoy it. It reminds me of a one night stand you have to try then never call them again. Try it. The cannolies were great. Fish n shrimp meah... nothing news worthy. Toppings were lacking and overpriced. Even with a coupon spent well over 50 on 1 pizza salad cannolies and fish n shrimps.

Make sure you come when you have plenty of time. When I arrived, I had to wait for 15 minutes, then got up and went to the register to order since no one was taking my order. I came here for the fish and chips, as did the couple next to me. They ordered their food - basic fish and chips - at 5:45 pm and it took AN HOUR in what is essentially a fast food restaurant. Mine took 45 minutes and when my fish and chips arrived there were 12 small fries. Literally the smallest portion of fries I have ever had in my 52 years on this planet. And these weren't wedge cut fries, just basic, lukewarm fries. The fish was good. The beer was good. Service beyond awful, fries ridiculous.

We have been ordering from green zone for about a year. We always get the same things, the roasted shrimp pizza. Unlike some reviewers we think the pizza is tasty and it has been very consistent. What is not consistent is the service. As I write this I am waiting for my pizza that was supposed to be delivered in 25-30 minutes. I called at 40 minutes and was told me that my pizza was done, but that the driver was out and that he would be back in about five minutes or so and then my pizza would be on its way in ten minutes or less. So basically my pizza will have at least sat around for 15-20 minutes before getting here. This is not the first time that we have been stuck waiting for our pizza and having to call back about it. I can excuse it one time, maybe twice, but since this seems to be the norm now instead a random mistake we will not be ordering again. It's sad since we like the pizza, but habitual bad service is just bad business. Oh yeah, now it's officially been an hour that I have been waiting...

This place blows so bad. Absurdly over priced pizza, that is a horrible rip off of Cottage Inn pizza, which is over priced and bland too. Do NOT give these jerks your money. I would say these people should Be ashamed of themselves, but I doubt it

Highly recommend the argula beet salad. It's the best salad i've ever had. The pizza is also good when you're feeling like fancy ingredients.

We went there for Sir Henry's. Clam strips were excellent perch dinner was not so good, dry and tasteless, would not try the fried fish again. Salad was pretty good. I have had the pizza before and it's pretty good also.

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century.
